Safety & Health…

Generally, Playa del Carmen is a very safe city. The tourist areas are well patrolled by police and the locals are friendly. Most safety tips are common sense to follow any time you travel.

  • Stay on the main streets where other tourists travel.
  • Never walk alone at night.
  • Avoid wearing jewelry or carrying anything that will make you a target for thieves or pickpockets.
  • Be careful using ATMs, especially at night.

For Medical emergencies dial 065 from any public phone. This number will connect you to the police that will send Emergency Medical services.

The Red Cross emergency service phone number is 984 873 1233. They will send a free ambulance. You can also seek medical attention at the Red Cross on Avenida Juarez and the corner of Avenue 25.  For major injuries the Centro de Salud on Avenida Juarez and the corner of Avenue 15 is open 24 hours.

There are also Hospitals and several smaller private clinics.  2 Hiperbaric chambers with Bilingual doctors, on call 24 hours.
